MANASSAS, Va., Feb. 3, 2011 “Swirling, fast-paced tapestries of movement,” said The Washington Post about this celebrated company, which is known as Argentina’s greatest cultural export and the most authentic representative of the tango. Tango Buenos Aires never fails to enrapture audiences as the diverse styles of tango are performed with dazzling intricacy, dramatic flourish and intense passion. Tango Buenos Aires appears at the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Merchant Hall in Manassas on Thursday, March 3 at 8 p.m. Pre-performance discussions, free to ticket holders, begin one hour prior to the performance in the Buchanan Partners Gallery. Novant Health is the Inaugural Season Sponsor of Hylton Presents at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas.

Titled the “Fire and Passion of Tango,” this stunning program tells a tale of romance, seduction, jealously, competition and reconciliation as the dancers portray a pair of friends, a man and a woman, who go to a cabaret and encounter another man, whom the woman likes, and his date. Their romantic entanglements play out over the course of the evening in an exciting array of passionate dances and sensual music. The company’s musicians perform spicy selections by such Argentinean composers as Astor Piazzolla, Osvaldo Pugliese, Agustin Bardi and others.

Formed in 1986 for the “Jazmines” festival at the famous Buenos Aires cabaret “Michelangelo” by renowned composer and tango director Osvaldo Requena, the ensemble – a collection of dazzling dancers, talented vocalists and gifted instrumentalists – trace the history of the Argentine Tango, an integral part of their culture that was born in the dance halls and brothels in the late 19th century and swept across Europe as high society embraced this unique dance sensation. Under the direction of music director Requena and subsequent music directors Christian Zarate, Julian Vat and Emilio Kauderer, and choreographer Susana Rojo, the ensemble has made appearances at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
