MANASSAS, Va., Dec. 14, 2010 – The Hylton Performing Arts Center presents an afternoon of world-class chamber music led by acclaimed Russian pianist Anna Balakerskaia in the Gregory Family Theatre on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at 3 p.m. The program, titled Anna & Friends, will feature works by such famous Russian composers as Glinka, Rachmaninoff and Khachaturian. This performance is a part of the Encore Events.
In addition to Balakerskaia, this outstanding ensemble includes Ricardo Cyncynates and Zino Bogacheck on violin, Claire Eichhorn on clarinet and Amy Frost Baumgarten on cello. These fine musicians are renowned across the country for their electrifying synergy, technical expertise and rich, evocative sound. All four have appeared with prestigious ensembles in the Washington, D.C. area, including the Kennedy Center Orchestra, the Washington National Opera Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.
A three-time winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition “Best Accompaniment” Award, Balakerskaia has shared her mastery of piano with audiences in concert halls across the globe, from her native Russia to Europe and the Americas. Known for her incredible versatility, she is in great demand as a soloist, collaborator and a chamber musician and is praised for her singular ability for collaborating with string players. Balakerskaia is the founding member of the Ensemble da Camera, a trio of musicians from the Washington, D.C. area that includes Cyncynates and Eichhorn. Balakerskaia is also a professor of piano and a private music instructor in George Mason University’s School of Music and also on the faculty at the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. She is a sought-after teacher and gives master classes throughout the United States and Europe. In addition, she teaches at international summer music festivals in the Netherlands, Germany and Russia.
